For whom will government’s proposed food safety rules make food safe?

The industrial production of peanuts, cantaloupes, hamburger, spinach, and other foods has resulted in large scale contaminations that sickened many and killed some.
In keeping with their stated policy of “Never let a serious crisis go to waste,” politicians flew into action and, in the waning hours of 2010, enacted the Food Safety Modernization Act, which granted to the Federal government total and absolute control over the nation’s food.
To facilitate its control, government appointed former Monsanto VP Michael Taylor to the position of the nation’s Food Safety Czar, who then presented 1,200 pages of rules and regulations on who could produce food and how they could produce the food.
When the nation’s food producers considered government’s proposed rules, they realized only a few among them would be able to comply, and so they, in conjunction with the consumers of their foods, raised their collective voices in protest. And so Taylor and his staff went back to work reformulating their rules and regulations.
Now they are back, with more rules and regulations on who can grow food and how they can grow it. These reformultated rules and regulations lead us to ask…
