Michael Olson Food Chain Radio – Pesticide Manufacturer’s Immunity
But, if you are a public school landscaper that gets drenched by a weedkiller spill, glyphosate is the cause of your non-Hodgkin lymphoma cancer.
In a landmark 2018 verdict, California law firm Wisner Baum LLP won a $289 million settlement for that cancer against Roundup manufacturer Monsanto Corporation on behalf of landscaper Dewayne Lee Johnson.
Since then, Wisner Baum, with other law firms, has won over $11 billion dollars in settlements against Monsanto and its new owner Bayer AG.
Given these awards, Bayer / Monsanto, and the world’s community of pesticide manufacturers, have petitioned the Federal government for relief from expensive lawsuits.
Their effort to find relief leads us to ask: Should manufacturers be held accountable for their pesticides?
