There is a mushroom festival in the works in the woods above our small coastal community of Santa Cruz. I suspect a lot of people will be attending from the nearby San Francisco metroplex to enjoy a taste of the magic that is mushrooms.
When the organizer of this festival told me that the largest known living organism on earth is a mushroom, or more appropriately a fungus, I knew there was a lot to this living organism that was simply not very well known, and wondered – Why do we know so little, about the magic kingdom of mushrooms?
