How should we tend our earthly garden? When it gets right down to it, we’ve been most atomistic with respect to how we have tended our earthly garden.
The single element we have focused on is profit, which is simply the difference between what something costs and what it can be sold for.
Now, some say profit is a dirty word, but really profit is the surplus of energy that enables us to have families, communities, nations and civilizations. Without profit, we are not.
That said, our single-minded pursuit of profit has led us to exploit our garden in ways that are– sometimes– downright harmful. To generate profit, we sometimes take from the garden without giving in return. But as we continue to take, without giving in return, our garden is diminished, and has less and less to offer our future.
This thought leads us to ask:
