Farm Subsidies and Farming the Federal Government
Guest: Adam Andrzejewski / Founder and CEO, American Transparency www.openthebooks.com
It’s our tax payer money and we earned it by working hard. Then, the government takes our money, the money we earn and puts it into a big pot and ponders what to do with it.
One thing government has decided to do with our money – over $13 billion a year – is give it to farmers.
Should we be concerned about giving our money to farmers? What would we city people eat, if not the food produced by our farmers? Could we gobble up everything in the grocery stores in three days? Should we reconsider sending our hard-earned tax dollars to farmers?
Should we reconsider which farmers government should give our money to?
The folks at “Open the Books,” have broken down the tax payer dollars and here are some numbers they have found:
– 389 farmers receive over $1,000,000 a year, with some recipients getting nearly $10 million a year.
– $17 million in farm subsidies were sent to the five most populated cities in the U.S.
– Nearly $5 million in farm subsidies were sent to the elites who live in 150 of America’s most expensive zip codes.
All of our tax payer cash, being given to so few farmers leads us to ask…
