Affordable Food Act – Affordable Care Act
Guest: Pamela Fugitt-Hetrick, Insurance Expert & Host of The Money Moves Radio Show
After a speech to an agriculture trade group recently, I was approached with a suggestion to feature the Affordable Care Act’s impact on agriculture.
When I pitched the topic around the agriculture professionals in attendance, I realized the Act, though not yet fully implemented, was already having an impact on just about everyone’s business.
Though none of the professionals seemed to be pleased with the impact the Act was having on their business, none seemed anxious to discuss the politics of the Act, fearing, perhaps, the wrong person might hear.
In fact, the Affordable Care Act is changing how the United States conducts the business of health care, which is said to constitute about one-fifth of its economy. When such a large change is made to one part of the economy it will likely affect other parts of the economy, and so we ask…
How will the Affordable Care Act affect the price of food?

The “agricultural professionals” that will have increased costs will be the ones who have heretofore treated food as a tool with which to make money instead of an essential part of living and community-izing. Nowadays, that means primarily BigAg and its associated dependents/facilitators. Their increased costs will be in their personnel realms, where they have manifested their assholic world views through the more unseemly aspects of Capitalism, and the vast majority of them have callously spread biocides throughout the biosphere (but even many large, in-name “organic” entities promulgate the same “business” perspective on food.) So, even though they could absorb the additional costs and simply profit less (but still profit adequately though perhaps not enough to satisfy their envy of and/or their “side” of Financial Tycoon) they will pass them on to their customers, because the desire for maximum money in their bank accounts is what really drives them.
This will add to the political winds that will drive the USA towards Universal Health Care, and, in the meantime, the same people and who have been preserving and improving the essential knowledge of how to grow food in harmony with the earth — the true organic farmers and their supporting/facilitating business associates — will not see much percentage change in their costs, and the increased prices of the mass-produced “food” will facilitate increased sales of their true food due to the narrowing of the price differential.
addendum:
Looks like there was something lost in my copy/paste post above.
Should be prefaced with: “Perhaps it is just my wishful thinking, but it seems to me that:”
